The New York Edition, New York

The New York Edition

The New York EDITION seamlessly blends the elegant design of Ian Schrager with its Madison Avenue landmark beginnings. Originally constructed in 1909 as Metropolitan Life Insurance Company’s headquarters, this clocktower, near Madison Square Park, has been ingeniously reinvented to offer luxury boutique accommodation, a tranquil hotel spa, chic new event spaces and a Michelin-starred restaurant helmed by Executive Chef Jason Atherton, all encompassed by 360-degree views of the City. The Clocktower restaurant offers updated classics and contemporary British fare by Michelin starred Chef Jason Atherton. Located on the hotel’s landmarked second floor, The Clocktower includes three uniquely-designed dining rooms, a billiards room, and a bar made entirely of gold leaf. Bespoke cocktails and Magic Owl Easy Blond Ale, brewed exclusively for The New York EDITION, are offered at the Lobby Bar, as is breakfast, lunch and light dinner.

“The only thing worth any star is that the room looks nice on the surface. The service is a joke - worse than all holiday inn express level of hotels (yes, they have no service but at least leave you alone). On the checkout date, housekeeping knocked on our door on 10 AM and 11 AM, both time left without answering me after I asked her what’s the matter (I didn’t know it was housekeeping). The security called me after midnight asking me to pick up a delivery that I *already* picked up hours ago. Seriously? I don’t even want to elaborate other small things during the stay. The bugging, plus the fact that there is no blackout shade, means I could not have enough sleep. The room design is also very bad. My gf and I hit our heads and hurt our hands here and there, due to the weirdly placed fridge, reading light and TV. Finally, although they charge you a daily destination fee, they require that you do not use any benefit on the day of checkout. I only stayed one night and arrived with a late flight, which means I wasn’t able to use it anyways, but to me this entire stay was like a comedy show already. I stay at at least 20~30 hotels every year. The quality of this one is at the bottom 20% despite a price at top 10-15% (adjusted for NYC already).”
