The New York Edition, New York

The New York Edition

The New York EDITION seamlessly blends the elegant design of Ian Schrager with its Madison Avenue landmark beginnings. Originally constructed in 1909 as Metropolitan Life Insurance Company’s headquarters, this clocktower, near Madison Square Park, has been ingeniously reinvented to offer luxury boutique accommodation, a tranquil hotel spa, chic new event spaces and a Michelin-starred restaurant helmed by Executive Chef Jason Atherton, all encompassed by 360-degree views of the City. The Clocktower restaurant offers updated classics and contemporary British fare by Michelin starred Chef Jason Atherton. Located on the hotel’s landmarked second floor, The Clocktower includes three uniquely-designed dining rooms, a billiards room, and a bar made entirely of gold leaf. Bespoke cocktails and Magic Owl Easy Blond Ale, brewed exclusively for The New York EDITION, are offered at the Lobby Bar, as is breakfast, lunch and light dinner.

“I stayed here for one night two weeks ago. As an ambassador elite, the hotel staff did email me beforehand to welcome my arrival and address questions I may have had. They also approved my "Your24" request, which I was very thankful for. Although the check-in desk did not acknowledge my ambassador status, the hotel staff did leave notes inside the suite. All the staff I interacted with were courteous and polite. I must say though, that after having first stayed at the Times Square Edition, I do not recommend the New York Edition. There are plenty of reasons for this. My experience at Times Square Edition was just more positive. I got a better view, including a private balcony, better food, bigger and better fitness center with a cheaper average nightly rate. Despite being in Times Square the hotel itself was also quieter. The New York Edition, however, seemed like it catered to the older more conservative business crowd and not the younger, solo leisure travelers like me. Overall, even though I had the Madison Suite, one of the bigger room sizes, I felt my stay was boring! Not only was the lobby bar closed, but the building was surrounded by scaffolding and full of construction workers in and outside the building. Additionally, I wanted my photographer to take photos of me inside the hotel and they told me this wasn't allowed, which is stupid since there are numerous photos on Instagram all over the property. Times Square Edition and many other properties did not have an issue as long as other guests weren't in the photos or I did not disturb them when taking photos. The photos were just me and one other person no different than taking cell phone photos.”

“A lovely hotel. Rooms are small, but it’s NYC people. We had a Superior room and it’s good for 2 adults but definitely not for a family. Stick to a Courtyard or Residence Inn if you need more space! The staff was very nice and the views are fantastic. Ask for a north or south facing room, as high up as you can go! The shower is very slippery. Watch out. Excellent location with some of the city’s best restaurants within a few blocks. We will definitely be back.”
